Families provide love, guidance and support for children. People living in family structures that don’t meet the traditional definition of the two-parent, one man–one woman family can face unique challenges from society, including homophobia.

The purpose of this toolkit, produced by Family Services à la famille Ottawa, is to create GLBTTQ-friendly learning places for children from birth to six years. Topics include practical advice on working with children and working with educators in the school or preschool.

However, issues specific to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, two-spirit, intersex and queer people’s lives can further affect drinking and other substance use. This brochure describes some of those issues and offers advice on getting help.
